There are to be a number of kilted men at my wedding - both involved and attending. The wedding party, ushers and ring bearers are all wearing rented 16oz 8yarders, and I'm wearing my own Robertson tank. My MC would like to wear one as well, but wants to get his own - he's a Wallace. However, he's not willing to plunk down the serious money required to get a 16oz wool kilt - even a 5 yarder. It's not something he'll wear very often. It's more like if he can get something cheap enough, great, if not, he'll just rent one.

I looked at USAK for him. The semi-trad is borderline too expensive.. I haven't asked, but I don't think he'd go for it. The casual is probably ok price wise, but I'm concerned about the look - given that it's a wedding and everyone else is more or less wearing genuine, traditional style wool tanks. Maybe Rocky's around - can you make a casual that just sits a bit higher with the larger belt loops? Can it be worn formally? He'll be renting a PC et al to go with it.

I also checked out SWK. Unfortunately they only have the economy in Wallace. Now I still have to get his measurements so I'm not sure if SWK is even an option because of the length (he's a bit on the short side). But if that works out ok - I have the same concern. Will an economy stand up to the tanks? Or will he look like the guy that couldn't afford a real kilt .. ? I have an SWK standard - and I know it's quality.. if they had Wallace in standard I wouldn't have any questions at all.. but I've never seen an economy. For those here that have BOTH SWK standard and economy kilts, how do they stack up?
