Stirling Castle Pictures #1
The day after Falkirk, friend Andrew and I went to Stirling Castle where we met up with Bill, one of the Castle guides who not only got us in free as his guests but gave us a personal tour, including areas not usually seen by the public.
This picture is a kilted one!
Myself and Andrew posing in the former Sergeant's Mess (not a public area) in the building housing the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders Museum. I'm wearing the Cornish National tartan and Andrew is wearing the Scotland National.

This stained glass window is in the same room.

This will interest the animal sporran aficionados!
Badger head sporran that was worn by an officer of the A&SH Regiment.

This 19th Century cartoon of kilted "paratroopers" was very amusing and unexpected.

The museum has an extensive medal collection, including several Victoria Crosses such as this one. It is the highest possible award for bravery awarded to British service personnel.

Bill points out to Andrew some of the interesting points of the former barracks building, now being restored as the Great Hall that the Stewarts would have known. The building used to be as grey as the former Stewart Palace on the right but archaeologists discovered evidence it had once been painted that colour so it was repainted in it.
