Ancient Caledonia

Ok gang - here's my latest - a 5 yard 16 oz wool in the ancient Caledonia tartan by Lochcarron. This kilt is by Tartanweb.com a vendor that has had a hot and cold track record with XMarks members.





So here's a quick review... I exchanged several emails with Iain from Tartanweb.com/Scottishkilts.net and whoever else they are on the web prior to ordering - he promptly answered each email and was always very helpful. Ordering went without a hitch and the kilt was shipped via ParcelForce/US Mail. It arrived on the day it was promised. The kilt itself is well constructed and I am very satisfied with the overall fit and finish. This tartan has a large sett so I left the pleating up to the kiltmaker. I think they did a good job given that this is a 5 yard kilt.

As you'd expect, the kilt is lined, and has the usual three buckle set-up. The leather and buckles are of adequate quality. The kilt has a few nice touches - the middle of the deep pleat and under apron edge are turned-up to keep them from sagging below the over apron and the kilt came with a set of matching flashes. All in all a good experience from start to finish.

I love this very traditional tartan - the "ancient" colors are vibrant and beautiful. This is my second kilt using Lochcarron's 16 oz wool - its just outstanding stuff.
