    Back from Caledonia

I’m still trying to adjust to the time change.
While visions of one of the most beautiful places on earth still flow through my head and heart.
It was a trip of a lifetime.
My wife, who was basically going because
I wanted to do, has just said we should go back again in the next year!

Now to some kilt related activities. Being this was our first time to
Scotland we went with a tour group so we would not have deal with all the logistics.
I took my Wallace 8 yd kilt.
(By the way thanks to Phil for the great web page he has on how to pack a kilt. Worked like a charm!)

The first two days were a great deal of traveling, so I waited till we got to Inverness to wear my kilt.
When I walked into the restaurant for dinner I got a round of applause.
Then when I was at the pub one of my fellow travelers bought me a drink.
    I was amazed. :o
Up until that point we had only encountered 1 kilt and that was a piper at Loch Ness.
The group was very receptive to the kilt with tons of questions.
    It was a great evening.
Sitting in the pub with a group of new friends.
Enjoying a good dram of Lagavulin, a low flame in the fire place and a grand soft rain coming down.

I have a few more stories to tell, but I will save them until later. Cheers for now.

    Nelson,

Glad that you had a good time! I am also glad that your wife wants to go back next year, but twisting your arm I'm sure will be an awful chore

Welcome back to this wacky world of Xmark

Oh that sounds SOoooooo wonderful, I should love to hear as many stories as you have time to tell.

I was surprised about the round of applause! are kilts so rare in Scotland?

Did you buy a kilt or look at any kilt stores there?

Welcome back. Did you encounter any X's in your journey? I left you a lot but I am not sure how many made it since May...

Sorry no X's marks and I did not get to put anymore up since my pages were still lying here in my
printers tray! I usually forget something
    on a big trip.

I did not buy any kilts but I did go into just about
every kilt store I ran across. I was in the market
for a dress sporran but there were none that I just had to have.
I did get a new kilt pin and a silver quaich.

Kilts were scarce. The Edinburgh tour guides
wore them. I think we had a discussion here
about how they had to fight to get to wear kilts.
It just made me feel better getting my history from
a guy in a kilt. Not all the guides wore kilts but
    the majority did!

Scots wear Kilts for social occasions, like weddings. They probably applauded because they thought you just got married

Welcome back Nelson! How could you ask for a better trip. Avoiding some of the storms that were headed your way while basking in the beauty of Scotland!?! 8)

Your wife's response to Scotland sounds like my sister's a few years ago. She was all pumped for London, and didn't really want to go to Edinburgh, but she ended up loving Scotland so much they're going back this spring. She hated London so much, she swears she'll never go back. :o

I'm glad you got to make a mark for the kilt while you were over there.

    Ahoy and welcome back.
I hear tell that ye had a grand adventure, pillagin' an' plunderin' the col' seas of the nor' atlantic!

Ye ought not to've told us what just what booty ye've plundered, ye scurvy sea-dog! Ye'd better hoist the mizzen-mast, and pull hard a'starboard, for we'll all be after the legendary treasure of the 'kilt pin and silver quaich'.

    Ye be warned!
