Would I buy dirt? I have before for the missus' roses, but that's another story.

Not long after my Newsome kilt in the Iowa tartan arrived, my mother & I went to Iowa to see my family and to decorate graves for Memorial Day. I decided to take my kilt with me to show my great-aunt (99 years young & still flying to Miami!) and my cousins.

I wore my kilt when we drove out into the country to the site of the farm where my mother grew up. When we got there, I took a wee bit of the famous Iowa black dirt and rubbed into the kilt -- so now I carry a bit of the ancestral sod whenever I wear that tartan.

A bit sentimental, perhaps -- would I pay for that dirt? Nope, it's priceless to me. It represents the toil of my ancestors who worked the land.

So, go easy on the dirt, fellas.
