Irish dirt
I found this site in an airline mag and thought that I should share it
auld sod export company http://89.234.45.183/index.htm
this could be the ultimate Irish Kilt accessory

So what do you do with it, grow some shamrocks? Sounds a bit too 'Oirish' for my tastes.

Very strange. Wasn't there something in vampire folklore about sleeping on home soil, thus necessitating the need to bring some abroad? Or maybe that was the Leprechaun movies (featuring Warwick Davis), I can't remember...

Irish soil? If that's your thing, go ahead. I'd not turn it down if it was offered to me, but I'd never pay money for it.

I don’t think this forum is an appropriate place for dirt.
I’m sure that there are gossip forums out there that would answer for such.
Or a sailing forum that would appreciate a discussion of topsoils.
Don’t we have enough of a task to explain and champion the kilt…without this muddying of the waters?
And why Ireland? As if Scotland doesn’t have dirt as well?
And another thing…
What?
Oh.
Never mind.
If they sell enough of it might not Ireland become an atoll?
Atholl?
(Sir, this is a family forum – please mind your language!)

story...
Would I buy dirt? I have before for the missus' roses, but that's another story. ![Wink](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_wink.gif)
Not long after my Newsome kilt in the Iowa tartan arrived, my mother & I went to Iowa to see my family and to decorate graves for Memorial Day. I decided to take my kilt with me to show my great-aunt (99 years young & still flying to Miami!) and my cousins.
I wore my kilt when we drove out into the country to the site of the farm where my mother grew up. When we got there, I took a wee bit of the famous Iowa black dirt and rubbed into the kilt -- so now I carry a bit of the ancestral sod whenever I wear that tartan.
A bit sentimental, perhaps -- would I pay for that dirt? Nope, it's priceless to me. It represents the toil of my ancestors who worked the land.
So, go easy on the dirt, fellas.

I'm sure someone canned Scotch mist and sold it to (gullible) people a while back. Same as bottled water, a lot of it comes straight out of the tap. Coca-cola tried that with their Dasani stuff here a few years ago and had to take it off the market when people found out what was going on.

I have to agree with you there Greg. Why not just plan that vacation and check out the country for oneself. I'd rather have a phot journal of my travels in a beautiful country than a backyard full on their dirt.

Todd, the difference is that you were really there and held the dirt in your hands. I know when I was in Ireland we filled a film canister with dirt from the area my wife's maternal side came from. She loved the gesture, especially given that we had photos to go with it. This seems more like those "grow REAL irish moss or Shamrocks" that you can buy in celtic stores. Save you money and have an experince rather than another possesion.
