A casual belt score at Target
While at the local Target store I was perusing the "Clearance" aisle and spotted a rack full of wide, green nylon belts with fastex-style buckles, being sold as "suitcase straps" for suitcases up to 68" in circumference. The only problem was that they had the gosh-awful Eddie Bauer logo printed all over the strap.
For $3 each, I thought I'd risk buying one to see if it could be remade into something wearable. Lo and behold, the Bauer logo was only printed on one side! After cutting the buckles off I shortened the strap up a bit (actually a lot! ) and re-sewed the buckles with my sewing machine.
Here's the result. A sturdy, weatherproof, 2" wide belt for less than the price of the buckle alone at the outfitter's shop.
