I am also one who's waist and hip measurements are pretty close to the same (found that out making an X-Kilt), so I can often slip on and off mine. But I do see the advantages of buckling each time, especially when tucking shirts. My USAK from Ron has the Velcro closures, so it makes it very easy to "un-buckle" as it were.
