Assuming you are wearing a traditional kilt, slipping it off isn't a good idea as it places undue stress on the stitching as well as the straps. The fact that you can slip it off makes me wonder if (A) the kilt is too big for you, or you are wearing it properly? The kilt should be worn around the waist, not sagging below the hips.
