usually I don't do these Here's-what-happened-when-I-wore-my-kilt posts, but I thought today was pretty neat.

I wake up this morning and look out my window to be greeted by fine Scottish weather. 40° and drizzling. What to do other than battle it with the proper Scottish attire? Blue sweater, MacRea SWK, and gray Heritage Hose. What I didn't know was that today is a prospie visit day (prosies = prospective students). High schoolers and their parents visiting to find out of Beloit College is the place for them. I overhear a few interesting comments, but it wasn't until after class that it really got cool.

I decided to pull out the pipes today. Usually I only play outside on Friday afternoons, but today I was really jonesin' for some pipin'. I stand out at my usual spot and go through a few sets. As I'm walking back inside, I hear somebody shout "Wait! Come back!" A Beloit student and the prospie she was hosting came running up. The student (who I have not met before) says that her prospie plays the pipes too. I turn to the 5'5", 100 lbs. girl and ask if it's true. She says she's been playing for 4 years with the Minnesota Police band. I hand her the pipes and ask for a tune. She belts out Cockney Jocks waaaay better than I could. It was great! I tell her that she HAS to come here, because I'm graduating and they'll need a piper for next year.

There is hope.
