Here's the other side of the coin:
I bought my 'pipes for $375 from a man who had bought them in Scotland 30 years earlier. He had been a reporter and had bought them while on a story assignment. Many years later he and his wife divorced and he decided to liquidate reminders of their years together. A dealer/shop owner/former P/M has appraised them at $1,200.
Moral of the story: Yes, some deals are too good to be true, but others really are true.
My advice: Take a competent 'piper with you to try the 'pipes out and see what happens. Good luck!
