    Many don't wear a belt. However I always wear a belt for the reason you pointed out above. It does feel more secure.

    I always wear a belt with my kilt because I find the sporran straps to be far more comfortable than a sporran belt[1].

    [1] Alas, yes, this is a veiled reference to my unwanted girth.
