    Great pics!

Smart, understated, elegant. This is how it's done.

I think the only thing to remember is that it's a wedding- which means two things: it has a level of formality above the average party; and the day belongs to two people. I you keep those things in mind as a guest, it is hard to go wrong. 1: dress for the occasion (and if your best happens to be the kilt, great) and 2: if worried, get the opinion of those that it concerns, ie. the happy couple.

If you show respect to the couple (family), by dressing well, then I seriously doubt that anyone will have anything but positive feedback. (Also, just because you receive complements, doesn't mean that you are reducing the importance of the bride... that is difficult to do). The only thing I would be wary of is not upstaging the groom, remember it's his day too! Which means...No fly-plaids! No dirks! (I personally would be hesitant about full mess-dress, medals etc.- However, a serviceman wearing uniform is hardly being disrespectful!) Showing your respect as a guest by dressing approppriately is the most important thing and will not be unappreciated.

Regardless of the heat, I would be hesitant to put on a t-shirt (unless the groom and father of the bride did it first..!)

    Cheers!

    Michael

    All's well that ends well!

    Great photos all.

For myself, wearing a suit isn't an option as I've not owned a suit in many years.

If an event calls for a certain level of formality then I can only attend in Highland Dress. (I'm not going to go out and rent a suit, not with a closet full of kilts and kilt jackets!)

It's never been a problem for me. For one thing, nearly all the weddings I've attended have had loads of kilted men at them. The few that haven't, the brides have been good friends and/or coworkers and they expected me to show up in a kilt.

I do suppose that were I ever to attend a wedding of people I didn't know I might prefer to fly under the radar and wear a tweed sportcoat and khaki slacks- the closest thing to a suit I have. It's what I wear to Church.
