Skean dhu
Greetings to everyone on the forum from the land of whisky, mountains and (at the moment) lots of rain!! Don't know if its good for the grain to have quite so much of the wet stuff at this stage of the summer but we can't do much about it. Anyway - I have a pressing question which I hope you can answer....
Is it permissable to wear the skean dhu (and presumably on this website I don't have to tell you what that is?) with the kilt in New York State and Ontario? We are visiting in two weeks and hubby is wearing his kilt to a family gathering (private) but also may want to wear it in Canada when out and about (ON only)
Hope you can help with this

Seems to be fine here in Ontario - I wear mine all the time with my kilt. I assume that he'll wear it in that context.
Welcome! Where in Ontario will you travel?

We will be doing the tourist spots - NOTL and up to Kingston, then Ottawa hopefully! Thanks for your reply - hope someone else confirms it for me!

Niagara on the Lake is one of my very favourite spots. Try to find the "Angel Inn" - it's ancient by North American standards, and quite nice. Pub grub. Leave yourself time for mainstreeting - a hundred boutiques, I'm sure, and if you can take in a play, that's marvellous too.
Kingston I don't know well, but Ottawa is a favourite. Just stroll around, and then take a car ride through the Embassy subdivision in Rock-cliff, past the Governor General's official residence at Rideau Hall. Don't forget the parliament buildings or the By-ward market.
Again, welcome to Canada and Ontario. Please let us all know about all your adventures and what you honestly think of it all.

According to the link here, you are ok in New York state, but NYC may be a problem, because it is illegal to carry a knife exposed in the city.

Welcome from the highlands of Central Massachusetts. I think you are ok in New York. You can find a lot on-line. Google state knife laws and check it out. I think under 6" is ok in NY.

Welcome from Toronto. You should have no problem wearing a sgian dubh here in Ontario. However, I'd not wear it when in the USA; just to be "safe". I agree with Father Bill re: NOTL, and Ottawa. Kingston is really nice as well. A great waterfront and plenty of very nice eateries; Chez Piggy is fabulous. Enjoy!

Welcome! Don't forget the highlander pub in Byward market in Ottawa. Great place for a pint and big single malt selection. Enjoy!
