Slightly different take on the Skean Dhu...

I looked at the details, and it's admittedly a bit larger than most Skean Dhu's. But, I think it would work for someone wanting a knife with a good cutting blade.

    What do you guys think?

    Details here.

It wouldn't be legal to carry here... there's a 3" (7.6 cm) limit on fix blades, though I doubt anybody would say anything. The pipers carry 12" (30.5 cm) dirks, but get around that by not having an edge on the blade.

It could be done. A syou say though it is a bit longer than the normal 5" - 7" . Comfort might be an issue as the handle is likely not offset to one side to allow for a flatter lay against the leg. The sheath may need to be replaced with one that will extend up around the handle a bit more to offer more support in the sock and protect the kiilt hose from being slashed when removing and replacing the blade.

I tried that and it didn't work for me. Maybe the IT Nazi's have some sort of filters on the work computers here (it's a coffee break!).

I like it. It's not a "traditional" sgian dubh, it's not Scottish, but I like it anyway. The blade is 10 cm, or 4 inches long, and the handle appears to be a little less than that. It might feel kind of strange in your sock because of the curved blade, but it's a nice looking piece of metal, and cheap, too.

Personally, I never cared for khukuris...until I held one and was converted. That letter opener might be nice!

That's a nice knife, but I wouldn't stick it into my hose.

But, to each their own, if I saw someone that had one and he showed it to me, I wouldn't criticize him for not carrying a sgian dubh, I would say: "wow, that's a cool knife!", or something to that effect.

Then I would buy him a drink, so as to promote a certain "I-don't-want-to-stick-this-killer-looking-knife-into-TheBarry" feeling.

I have one of these that I take camping. Ordered it from the same place (different website) and I have nothing but good things to say about it.

    This one is mine.

Chops wood with ease, very well balanced, and tougher than any blade I've come across at that price. Be patient with the delivery though. It took mine about 2 months to get to me. But I guess that falls into the "price, quality, or speed. Pick two" category.
