I would like to add that the MacLaren pipe band was from the south Netherlands and included 3 German folk. They were not strickly MacLarens but were made most welcome. Dr Hamish McLaren, the chairman of the society, played the pipes with them at the rock.

Thumbs up Aaaah... MacGregor Country! ;p

Thanks for those lovely piccies, Mr Chris. I was gonna say, "don't forget the Rob Roy Museum in Killin", but then I realised you are a MacLaren... oh well. Your wife looks like she really means business there atop Stirling with that canon and all! I hope for your sake she didn't take one home...

I "ran across" the MacLaren chief's son up in Balquhidder a number of years back- around the time of the Lochearnhead games- he didn't seem to think too much of me being a MacGregor etc. It was impressed on me that while we MacGregors got on fine with MacLarens in general, the MacLaren holds a special disdain for MacGregors. Like father, like it seemed.

I'd be interested to know if the MacLaren's son is very involved in clan business and how relations are generally among the MacGregor and MacLaren clan folk these days? It seems a bit silly to be rowing over stuff from hundreds of years ago, but I guess some people really know how to hold a grudge, eh wot?

    Best regards,
    Wesley

I second that! The photo really shows the scale of the hills in the background in relation to the size of the monument - awesome! Breathtaking photos...I wish I was there!!! Thank you for sharing!

    Cheers,

At the games, the MacLaren and MacGregor tents were next to each other and they seemed pretty much friendly and were in each others tents so I don't think there is any real problem between them now.

    Chris.
I'm very pleased to know we're getting along so swimmingly! And who needs ancient clan rivalries when you have college football anyway?!

It looks like you and your wife had a lovely time and some beautiful weather to boot. Guid on ye! And thanks for your report on the clan situation.

    Aye,
