The first fabric does not look like a twill fabric. I can't tell if the second one is twill or not. You may have a bit of trouble with the stitching using non-twill, but they're both great looking fabrics and your end result will be smashing.

LOL! Thanks Chas! I havent got to start on these yet but theyre on my to do list along with possibly a solid color chocolate brown. Havent decided yet on that one may have a vest and tie made from it.
If you're asking for preferences, I like the first fabirc better thanthe second. If you follow Pleater's advice and use whichever fabric YOU like less as the under apron, you'll probably have enough to make this kilt.

I got to playing around with the pleating and I tried starting off in the center and pleating outward. I kind of like it and it uses less fabric but I am still undecided.
