    Vegan Sporran?

First off, yes, I'm an ethical vegetarian looking for a sporran (for modern casual wear -- X-kilt, etc) that doesn't include any animal products. I understand how this could be a sticky subject, so I'm going to ask right off the bat that this thread stay far away from opinion / debate on the topic. I'm merely trying to locate a less expensive vegan sporran. I know that Stillwater offers a mostly nylon sporran, but the tassels are real leather.

Does anyone know of a place where I can find such an item, without paying too much, while still keeping the quality acceptable enough?

    Thanks in advance,
    Daniel

Stillwater could probably leave off the leather tassels or make them out of nylon. Have you tried PMing them to ask about it?

Also, there are some nice artificial leathers available from which a fine sporran could be made. Our sporran makers here would be willing to work with you on that.

Good luck with the searching, from a dietary vegan.

I agree - take the leather tassels off the Stillwater nightstalker sporran made from ballistic nylon. Or, Amerikilts makes a cloth sporran, not sure how it'd hook up to other kilts.

Many small camera bags, carry pouches can be adapted for use as a sporran. Or just drop wearing a sporran and put your stuff in a vest or jacket.

Or buy one of the many kilts with built in pockets.

    Lots of options for you.

After I get home, I'll show you what I did on my 1st x-kilt for a pocket. On my second, I made a pouch that goes on my belt. (I usually wear a leather belt, but intend to make a paracord one once I find big enough D rings....)

Snark aside, Vegetarian Sporran makes a great product. I purchased one of their day sporrans last year and I've been really pleased with it. I need to post pictures come to think of it... Their products are a little more on the spendy side (I think mine was around $80 to $100-ish? I can't remember) but the quality is great.

It's a shame the same can't be said of their website; they badly need a web designer. You'll have to specify by description via email which one you're looking to buy and then set up a Paypal transaction with them. If nothing else they communicated well, and neither billing nor shipping held any surprises. If you're willing to forgo slick internet checkouts you'll end up with a solid, vegan sporran in a matter of weeks.

Also, hello from a fellow kilted vegan!

The adhesive could be made from rendered horse fat or the gelatinous part of the hoof, but I like the idea. Duct tape comes in all colors now so no need to settle for a silver sporran. I think a duct tape kilt is probably doable too. But would that be knife pleated or boxed?

Kirika, if you need a vegan hagis recipe, just google it. You'll find several and most of them are pretty similar. The two that I've made turned out reallly well.
