    Make your own sigan

I posted this in the thread about sigan scabbards, but I feel it needs it's own thread.

I was looking at a simple paint stir stick the other day and thought "I can cut it to a point, then all I need is some paint..."

Has anyone made a wooden practice (and public safe) sigan

Most of us prefer a sgian brew for both convenience and safety.

I happen to be a person that refuses to carry anything without some form of utility. I carved a wooden sgian for my 7 year old, but if I am in an area where blades are unwelcome, I will go without or one of my carved sgian brews.

    ulterior motives

One of the reasons I was thinking about it is that my wife is the prop mistress for the Belfast (Maine) Maskers Theater Group. They put on Pirates of Penzance this summer and Fredrick meeded a blade. She "borrowed" one if my sigans, but had to tape over the edge with shiny duct tape for safety/insurance purposes.

The concealed carry law in Maine is also a bit unclear at to carring a blade somewhat concealed. Although I know wearing my sigan dubh to the Mens in Kilts contest at the Maine Celtic Celebration wil never get me in trouble (or any other time either).

I guess I want to make one just to make one.

If you know any woodworkers, ask whether they might have a scrap of the right size. You might luck into something really attractive.
