No connection whatsoever between kilts & facial hair for me. Also, no connection to masculinity issues... Although when I was in my teens I did wish that I could grow some facial hair in order to look more manly... That quickly wore off as soon as I knew I could....

As far as fashion goes, I march to the beat of a (sometimes VERY) different drummer. I've had some kind of facial hair on and off since college, depending on my moods. However having said that, nowadays it servers a practical purpose. I get this really weird rash on the right side of my upper lip. It comes and it goes, and growing the mustache over it is simply easier and cheaper than going to the dermatologist (who I think is a bit of a quack anyway). When the rash goes away, I shave. When it starts to return, I grow the hair back. Lol. It kinda sucks but what do you do? Besides, the wife loves the facial hair. She says it tickles.

Kilts came much, much later, and to my best recollection, the first time I wore one I was clean-shaven. Interesting thread though... There really ARE a lot of men on XMTS that have some kind of facial hair but speaking as someone with a science education background.... Remember one of the cardinal rules of observing and interpreting data:

CORRELATION DOES NOT EQUAL CAUSALITY.
