    Completely opposite attitudes.

I was over to the Athletics building here on campus last week to grab a cup of tea, kilted of course. While I was paying and chatting with the young lady behind the counter I heard the voice of a young male walking by behind me snicker and say in a very condensending voice "Must be a special occasion". I turned and saw that it was a very big lad, from the hockey team most likely, and he was saying this to his very pretty little girlfriend. She looked sort of taken aback when she realized that I'd heard him. So I looked him the eye and said "As a matter of fact it is....it's Thursday and I always wear a blue shirt on Thursday" He came to a halt completely caught off guard and after about 5 seconds, the little lady started to laugh. He still didn't know what to say and as I left the building, he was still standing there as she laughed and laughed. Probably too many pucks to the head.
Now, today when I went over a gentleman in his late 80's walked right up to me, stuck out his hand, and told me it was good to see a kilt for a change. The man had one of the thickest Scottish accents I've heard for some time. He went on to tell me that he grew up near Edinburgh and wore a kilt until he went off to university in that city, but always put one back on when he was around home for weekends and holidays. We had a great chat about Scottish dress in general.
A conversation with a fellow like this more than makes up for 10 negative comments made by idiots.

That's hilarious ... did you just think that up on the spot?

I did. It just kind of came out. But I've always had a somewhat sarcastic sense of humour.....years of serving with smarta**'s.

That seems to be the norm, at least for me. Guffaws, snide comments, and laughter behind my back from boys (not men) as you pass by... never to your face... Insecurity is a pathetic thing sometimes.

A good comeback there. Actually I do know of an RAF base where on Thursdays they stop wearing their blue uniforms and wear green camo instead, there's probably a good reason for it

Dress down Thursday? Perhaps it makes them feel more warry

    Well said, Ex-Dragoon!
The jock picked his target and thought he would look like a big man in front of his girlfriend, but he didn’t reckon that you might have a perfectly straightforward comeback.
I suspect the girlfriend will develop a liking for kilts.
    Regards,
