A conversation with a fellow like this more than makes up for 10 negative comments made by idiots.
    Here, here, I totally agree.

Love it! 11 out of 10 for your quick thinking

    Chris.
Love that! I laughed at loud at that one...

Interestingly me and my partner get similar challenges and comments about wearing shorts, especially out of 'season' (?) it seems wearing anything different means a few silly people MUST comment and we apparently have insulted their mothers by doing so! No wonder people get comments about kilts...although it means less of a stretch for me to wear one!

    Re: Completely opposite attitudes.

I'm a complete newbie here...new to the forums and new to kilts. I run a hunting retreat for disabled vets and wore my cammo utili-kilt (don't worry, have a 'formal' one on order with Steve at Freedom) one night. Of course I got made fun of....until one of our Marines told me that he wore the same one in Afghanistan on OP's all the time, even wished he'd brought it with him to our ranch.
Anyhoo...so this thread got me to thinking: is there a thread somewhere that has a list of come-backs to all the snickering, snide remarks, etc., that you are bound to hear? The old "it's my Scottish heritage" just doesn't seem to cut it with my crew!
    Cheers...

I'm guessing that she isn't going to be his girlfriend for long. Great come-back!

I did feel like a fish out of water, wearing shorts in Britain while on holiday.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone there wear them... and my various holidays travelling around Britain have always been in mid summer.

Here, in SoCal, there are many like myself who only wear shorts, regardless of season. I haven't owned a pair of jeans in 30 years or so, and my son, 21, has never owned a pair of jeans. (My son also wears Aloha shirts 7 days a week.)

I do own one pair of light khaki trousers that I wear to church (though many people here attend church in shorts), and a pair of black slacks that I wear to gigs at which a kilt would not be appropriate.

Welcome to the kilted world. I'm a recently retired Soldier and I've found that military folks generally like the kilt. As for comebacks, it really depends on the tone of voice. Usual response it because it is (insert day). An answer to males acting stupid depends on what they are wearing and gets a snarky reply. If tight jeans I tell them that some of us need more room than others. If looser jeans, especially if with a female, I tell them I'm not the one wearing the same clothes as their wife/girlfriend.

By the way, thanks for doing what you are doing for my disabled brothers in arms.

    Re: Completely opposite attitudes.

    Great response.

I normally kilt on the weekend when I'm not going to be responding to calls for my fire department (I'm a Vollie). I had neglected my Single Malt levels and had to make a mid-week run to the store for replenishment. The weekend previous to this one of the ladies who works in the shop commented on my wearing a kilt (Her: I love a man wearing a kilt. Me: I wore it just for you.) but was taken aback at seeing me in p@nt$ until I told her that I was on call for the day. Literally: "Why are you wearing pants! Oops!"
I've found that most relationships work best when no one wears pants.
