    Re: Kilts and Clergy wear

If you are swapping the buttons out why not go for the black version of the buttons you already have on the jacket. I presume they are the Lion Rampant buttons? That way you sparkle less but still remain traditional

If I remember correctly the larger buttons are 19mm but are usually simply described as "large" with the sleeves, epaulettes and pockets described as "small"

davidg, I like your idea of the black buttons. Saw this on the Heritage of Scotland website:

I am currently searching for something similar. If anyone can help me in my quest, it would be appreciated!

They are available. . . here's a non-U.S. source but a more robust search should find them Stateside as well. Took me about 3 mins to locate these. . .

On closer glance, that site is owned by Heritage of Scotland so maybe the buttons aren't as widely available as I thought. Anyway it's one source to start with.

    Re: Kilts and Clergy wear

I'm a Protestant Pastor and wear kilt for a number of church occasions. I wear the black Argyle coat and waistcoat silver buttons and all, and never thought of it being untoward. It's formal enough and seems appropriate. The only difference between church outfit and formal Scots events is that I don't wear furry animal sporrans (seem 'showy' and some church folks are very animal rights conscious---I've had church folks very animated by the sporran and never saying a word about the kilt per se) and I don't wear the Sgian Dubh.

They are exactly what I mean. I'm not sure off hand where you can buy the buttons on their own but I know you can get them as I saw some only a week or two ago. It may have been the Site you saw the jacket on or it may have been Scotweb. I'll have a look around later today and if I see them I'll give you a shout
