In general I quite like the weathered tartans that I've seen, and thought this one might look nice that way. But that's definitely the nice thing about weaving; you get to pick your colors and get exactly the look you have in mind, modern/ancient/weathered, or what have you.

In weathered colors, red tends to be a dull red and blue comes out a dove grey.
Since red and blue are the two primary colors used to produce purple, I think a weathered purple would probably end up a sort of mauve or faded mulberry shade. Something like this:
