Apron Overlap, he wants it on the left. Help!

Make him a left-handed kilt then. we have left-hand can openers, scissors, tools. Just go single straps on either side and possibly fringing both sides would help disguise it. I'll not look down on him because his kilt opens on the opposite side as mine. As MoR pointed out the knife pleats would work better when climb into a LHD car (as the driver at least).

We have all these things because it's no longer allowed to drown the "sinister" as witches Apparently THEY (and to a degree, I) need these conveniences.

For the life of me I can imagine seeing a fellow in a handsewn wool tartan kilt that opened on the left and thinking "LADIES' SKIRT!" I might think "Hmmmm that's unusal" and possibly ask him about it (though probably not).

It will look like a kilt no matter which side it opens on and if you have stated what the norm is and he understands and has a good reason to require it otherwise then everything is jake.

I recall a pic of a Scottish lord, probably c1949 who was wearing a cut down saxon houndstooth jacket and a kilt with reversed aprons. I believe Jock Scot (and forgive me if my memory is shoddy) saying that when a kilt's apron was damaged they would sometimes be reversed.

Thanks for the pick up on my absolute statement Artificer. I stand corrected I can see in an instance that you describe, it would be done. I do however stand by my call, that a newly made one would be classed, at least by myself, as a ladies kilted skirt.

Honestly, as others have said, if you have explained that a left opening is not the norm and he still wants it...then do what he wants. But of course, I would LOVE to see pictures

In regards to a kilt opening on the left I have 3 8 yrd denim knife pleats that I made for myself that open on the left and for me being I am left handed it is actually easier for me to wear the ones I made.

Before I could afford to do otherwise, I bought a lady's kilt and reversed the opening. I believe Charles Thompson discusses in SO YOU'RE GOING TO WEAR THE KILT how it was once common practice to reverse the aprons when doing work that might otherwise damage or soil the top apron.
