The perfect kilt - if price is no object

i would have an 8 yard 20oz campbell ancient made by matt newsome, with the optional half plaid, with hand knit red and white diced hose, and a nice horse hair sporran, with the clan campbell crest badge on the cantle

I would have every kilt maker who has ever posted on XMTS form a rough circle on the central, rock-paved, terrace of an obscure western Civil-War graveyard. Each of them would clutch a weapon chosen from a pile of mid-19th century revolvers, some fully loaded, some with only one cartridge, and others completely empty. But, none of them would know the number of bullets in their gun.

Then, in the center of the circle I would scrawl on the bottom of a flat rock the name (Un Kanowen) on the tombstone of the grave that contained the treasure. ("What treasure?") Shut up!

Then, after a seemingly intolerable length of time staring at one another and going round and round while Ennio Morricone music drones to a climax, they would all draw their pistols and start shooting (presumably at each other, if not too dizzy).

The last kilt maker standing would take home the treasure, ... after s(he) made my kilt.

Not many Brits speaking up so far. But from what I have seen on the forum and the pictures posted, it would be our own Paul Henry for me. Fingers crossed he will get my order for Cameron Hunting or C of Erracht ancient 16oz knife pleated, possibly to the stripe early next year when funds will be available. An added bonus is that he is only about 60 miles from me so a little trip out for measurement and fitting would be no problem.
My choice would be a lot more difficult if Matt, Bonnie Heather, Barb or Kathy lived in the UK.

If you lived a long way from ANY kiltmaker, would you still choose Paul?

I would. He made my last tank, and it is impossible (whatever your name is or whatever your talent or whatever diplomes you have) to make a better kilt.

I must say though, if money was no object, I would ask Paul to make me a kilt in the same tartan as the tank he made me, but in Harris Tweed.

Yes I would still choose Paul. No disrepect to any of the other kiltmakers but for the OPs stipulations then from the pics that Paul has posted of his work it would be a pleasure and a treasure to own one of his creations.

Now if it was a box pleat..............

I am with Jock on this one, I have it already!

However, if I had to choose my kiltmaker, based upon who I have already used as my preferred kiltmaker, I would choose Kinloch-Anderson of Leith, Scotland.

This decision doesn't necessarily mean I am not open to 'branch out' and try other kiltmakers. On the contrary, I am in the process of having another heavyweight, 8-yard tank, complete with all of the pertinent details, i.e. - fully lined, made of D.C. Dalgliesh tartan in the Macpherson reproduction colours, double fringe, two brown leather straps and brass buckles (tones well with this particular tartan), etc, by Barb Tewksbury, and I eventually would like a kilt made by Matt Newsome...so I think I am well on my way...lottery or no lottery!

Actually having had a think if I won the lottery then I would have a kilt from all of them. The difficulty then would be choosing which one to wear to which occaision.

I have a PV 9yarder but not actually a wool tank per se. So I still have the luxury of choosing my once in a lifetime kilt. Although as I stated above I would indeed have a kilt from all of the illustrious band of Kiltmakers previously mentioned in this thread. Now what a wonderful wardrobe that would be.

I would have a tank made by Rocky since he has a great reputation as a kiltmaker and I'm close enough that I could be measured in person and pop in every week to ask "Is it done yet? How bout now? Now? Now?"

Assuming money no object I'd also get a personal trainer to whip my behind into shape so that said kilt would not only look good, but look good on me.
