2 completely separate companies. Viking Technology (aka Gaelic Themes) owns no mills.

Agree 100%, John. If people go in with their eyes open, then they get value for money.

Irish National is a great tartan. I love mine.

A Stillwater will set you up just fine.

They trade as Heritage of Scotland and they had 30% off casual kilts in January.

Re: Kilt Question - Irish National tartan
I have the Stillwater Irish kilt and love it. No problems whatsoever. I highly recommend them as an affordable alternative to more expensive kilts.

Re: Kilt Question - Irish National tartan

I bought a Stillwater Kilt in January. I bought the economy (which was like 55.00). It was a great step up from SportKilt... it has leather buckles and I was very surprised and happy with the product. The pleats are sewn down at the top and it is "half lined".
Sizing: I ended up with a 38 (but I should have kept the initial 36 I had). I'm a 34 in pants and it's a little loose. I also had to have it hemmed (I'm 5/8") and I had to pull it a good 3 inches above my navel to show any knee. Even when I had it hemmed I could have gone a little shorter. (My knees do show, although the photo does not show it from the angle).
The DOWNSIDE:... It is a fabric that does "pil" easily. I've worn it a few times, and it is quite "messy" from the sporran. I think that is more related to the material makeup. So, in my opinion... if you want to have something a little more "formal" than the SK and not break the bank, then I would put the money in the ECONOMY version from SWK. I don't think there is enough difference to justify the standard in that the material is the SAME and it will still "pil". I love it... and I love the bright green.
That being said, I am planning on ordering a USA Kilt in the Ireland's National in the Semi-Trad. It's a significant jump in price ($150 more), BUT, for as often as I go kilted, I think it will be better in the long run. I'll keep (and continue to use my SWK as I do like the color.
Just my 2 cents since I just went through this same process.
