No, it wasn't a surprise. Like a lot of the other folks here, I saw a new shipment of kilts come in and was excited to see something in my size (although I went with a size larger so it would fit on my hips since I'm hourglass-shaped... the fit isn't perfect, but I expected that... I think it will be just fine and great for a knock-around kilt and to hold me over until I can get some of the kilted skirts I want down the line). I didn't tell anyone except Christopher and Arlen just in case it turned out the fit wouldn't work but I've been going NUTS waiting for it. Especially with everyone talking about their Irish National kilts they ordered... hahahah! I'm glad I at least had two people to chat with about it.

I ordered it Sunday morning and then chatted with Jerry later that day and we changed it to the next size up. He shipped it Monday morning and I just got it today... woohoo! Gotta love that speed and customer service!!!!

I just thought it was a funny photo and a good teaser to have some fun until I got some photos of me in it later

I got one earlier this year for St. Patrick's. It looked OK and was so "thrifty" I didn't care if someone spilled beer (or worse) on it. Surprisingly I got lots of compliments on it.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I got it as well. I got harassed for not wearing green one St. Patrick's day when I went out to hear a band (friends of ours) play. I don't think I'll be getting harassed again (nor will I have to worry about spills).

I also decided on this one for my Dad (who has not been doing very good for the past few months. We're not sure if he'll make it, but I'm hoping he'll keep hanging in there). He always told me that his mother and her mother believed we had Irish ancestry. I never got to meet my grandmother, and I loved hearing about her. Anything Irish just gets him thinking about her, so I just had to have this tartan even if it turns out there is no Irish ancestry in our family

I was going to post photos last night, but the album here was doing weird things to the detail and fuzzing them out. I don't have my usual photo editing software on this laptop (I'm soooo looking forward to getting my other laptop back soon... woohoo!), so I decided to host the photos on my own server for now. Forgive the boring scenery, this is the only spot in our apartment that has enough light to capture a decent photo. I wanted to go across the street to a pretty garden, but Christopher had just come home from work and sometimes the camera does weird things in outside sun anyway.

Anyway, so I ordered the Irish National Tartan in the Thrifty model for myself. It's going to be a little while before I can get the kilted skirts I have been wanting, so I figured why not. As I previously mentioned, I could also wear it for St. Patrick's Day and not worry about it.



I have an hourglass shape and I contacted Jerry after I initially ordered and he recommended I go up a size or two and wear the kilt lower or have the waist adjusted. I decided to go up in one size and just wear it lower. There is a slight bulge at the top of the kilt, and the stiff material in the waistband makes it stand out a bit. I tucked my shirt into the kilt for these photos, and it wouldn't have been so bad except for when I sit. It will slide back up to my waist and stick out a bit away from me, it's a quick adjustment to just push it back down when I stand up.



We've been needing to get a kilt pin for Christopher, but I've had this pin just sitting around for a while. My Mom likes to send me jewelry and other things she finds and ends up not using. I really liked this pin and decided to give it a try as a kilt pin for a while.



Then Christopher put his kilt on so we could take some photos together.



We just had to! ;)



And of course, what would an evening with kilts be without a wee dram of scotch?



Christopher loved it... ha! He was so excited to get home to see the new kilt that he forgot to bring home his work laptop (another reason photos didn't get posted last night). He couldn't take his eyes off of me (now he knows how I feel when he's wearing the kilt). And hey... I got my first kilt check, too.

Except for the waistband issues, it's a very comfortable kilt. The tartan is lovely. As always the price, shipping speed (ordered it Sunday morning, talked with Jerry, changed it to a size larger and it shipped Monday morning... I got it Wednesday) and customer service were perfect! This will work just fine for a while until I can get some other kilted skirts a little more suited to my figure and needs.

Edited to add: Oh yeah, one of the reasons I posed on this angle... I need to get the iron and try to fix the pleat on the left side of the apron. It was folded in a weird way and has a double-pleat in it that really sticks out. The kilt came with three rows of basting stitches that made it hard to try on for me. The 2nd row -- right across the hips -- was a little tightly basted, so of course with my figure it made the kilt pull at the apron. I was able to figure out if it would fit okay without worrying, so I took the stitches out and was pleased that I was correct. The pleats stick out a tad at the hips on both sides, but again, this kilt technically wasn't made for a figure like mine, so it works for what I need it for at the moment.
