Personally, I don't think Rule #5 is at all applicable to a discussion about a religious-themed tartan. We are discussing its colors, sett, history, potential future, SRT notes, etc. As long as no one is proselytizing, advocating or criticizing a religion, etc. then "no harm, no foul".
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

Personally, I agree with MacBean, especially since the post in question was regarding who is real and who is imaginary. I'm not reporting or anything, but I am glad the rule was pointed out so now everyone knows full well of its existence.

    Re: Newly registered Christmas Tartan

    MacBean,
I thank you for your comment.
I joined Xmarksthescot 2 years ago but had to re register under my own name recently. Hopefully that will count for something.
I appreciate your concern. I know the rules, especially #5 but I had to answer a comment from Santa Kona and the only way I could explain to him the difference between his Claus of the North Pole Tartan and our Christmas Tartan was to bring the word Christianity into it.

My husband is a Great Highland Bagpiper and has been piping and wearing kilts for 33 years. He is a very ardent supporter and follower of the kilted Santas.
He owns 17 kilts and the Christmas Tartan one will be no 18, lol.
I hope this explanation puts your mind at ease that I was not trying to advocate my Christian (not religious) beliefs.
And I think at this point we can with ease end this thread.
    Ina

    Re: Newly registered Christmas Tartan

Your tartan registration also states "this tartan is introduced for Santa and his extended 'family' which is wonderful as it without a doubt brings lots of joy to your clan members. Your tartan celebrates the imaginary figure called Claus where we (the rest of the world) celebrate the real Jesus who`s birth we are actually celebrating during Christmas.

All we want to do is to tell the real story of Christmas!!!
Again I thank you most sincerely for your comments.
    Ina

You could not be more wrong.

You say that we are based upon an imaginary figure OK I will have to get you that. However a true Santa Claus takes on the teachings of St. Nicholas of Myra. We as Santa's try to emulate his life and charitable deeds.

Trust me, we do know the meaning of the season! My group believes in and supports the St. Nicholas Center and the Santa Claus Oath Foundation.

So I find your statement offensive and your argument not very well though out.

As to the Scottish Register of Tartans not allowing you to register your tartan because it was to close to mine well all I can say is it seems to me that it has become more of a money maker than anything else.

As long as you pay a fee you may register a tartan and it is my understand that it doesn't even need to be woven. Where as with the Scottish Tartan Authority you would send them your tread count they would then tell you if and what needed to be changed. Then it still had to be woven before you could register any tartan.

Now if I am wrong about that I hope someone much smarter that me will set the record straight about the registrations of tartans.

Here is the link to the St. Nicholas Center for you to take a look at.

In addition here is the link to the Santa Claus Oath Foundation.

The Christmas tartan is registered on the SRT. See

I'm confused. Is there a separate organization with initials STR, or is that a typo?
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

    Re: Newly registered Christmas Tartan

    Santa Kona,
    Thank you for your comment.
I am truly sorry if you find my comment offensive.
THAT WAS BY NO MEANS MY INTENTION.
I have no doubt that your group celebrates the season for the right reason.

As you have asked the question I felt obliged to answer.........

I however will not make any more comments as I was told NOT to discuss Religion as rule #5 states. Although Christianity to me is not a religion.

Our Christmas Tartan is registered with the Scottish Tartan Authority.
    See http://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/tar...aspx?ref=10554
They have the thread count on register and a woven sample/swatch of the tartan is on its way to Scotland.
The tartan register NEVER gave us any indication that they were not going to register our tartan or that it was too close to yours for that matter.

A very good friend of mine and long time member of Xmarksthescot is a member of your organization. As a Christian I have studied the St. Nicholas Center and the Santa Claus Oath Foundation. I thank you for your reference.

I again am sorry you took this whole matter the wrong way.
I wish you and the rest of the Santa Clan only well!!!
    Ina.
