Just because it is a clearance of on-hand material. It is only good for the tartans available, on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Looks like a very good deal if you find what you like.

I, of course, cannot speak for B&S, but IMHO one of the reasons is that there are a smaller number of tartans from which to choose. Also, from comments on the sale page, I think that B&S want to reduce their stock of the selected tartans.

You might also check with Brandon of B&S. He posts on XMTS from time to time, and can be reached through the B&S web pages - "Contact us".

Finally, someone with the pseudonym Alahpa posted a short review with pics on the "Casual Kilt on Sale" web page. You might benefit from reading that.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I haven't been kilt shopping in a long time, so I'm having to look up most of the tartans on the list. I didn't see my top choices right away, but perhaps I'll find something new that I'll like.

    Thank you kindly.

I saw an entry for "O'Saffron" in the list, but no pic in the viewer of it.

For those tartans that are not in their picture gallery, you might ask Brandon to send you a picture. I can't swear that he will do it, but it won't hurt to ask.

I have a Buzz Kidder that has the traditional strapps and buckles closure system, and it is made of canvas or cotton duck cloth, as well as being well within that price range.
I'm not exactly suggesting you get a Buzz Kidder, it's just what I have and have to live with for now, but I think there are also other canvas kilts with the straps and buckles.

Good luck, and hope you end up with something good.

Now to choose a color or tartan.... I'm leaning towards saffron (my ancestry is about 90% Irish), but if someone can find something in Clan Barclay dress muted tartan, you would forever be my hero (I have yet to find a tartan that I think would look better with a Polamalu jersey).

Out of curiosity, how do Stillwater Heavyweight kilts compare?
Just want to point out that the USAK Semi-Trad is also available in Irelands
National! I have one I bought used off of Rocky a few months back; I can snap a few pictures of it tomorrow in the light if you want.

I don't have one of their heavyweights, but their acryllic kilts seem well made, and their shipping is lightning fast. They have both green and saffron available in heavyweight, both with a 'shadow tartan' pattern, i.e self coloured but with a raised pattern. I have a saffron acryllic 'standard' of theirs, but even their wool ones are well within your budget.

That's actually the tartan of the Canadian Irish regiment, and you won't find it listed on tartan registers under the O'Saffron name. It's a sort of sheperd's plaid, i.e. more of a check than a tartan, in green and saffron. There is a similar registered tartan called Special Saffron, but the proportions of green and saffron are different.

There is a "Canadian Irish Regiment" on the SRT at ...

    http://www.tartanregister.gov.uk/qRe...nadian%20irish

I think it is the tartan under discussion. You can click on the picture of the tartan to see a bigger picture and more information, and you can do that again to see an even bigger picture! Enjoy, and good luck.
