    new ~$200 kilt suggestions?

In exchange for labor, an exceptionally generous friend of mine is insisting on buying me a new kilt. He said the budget is around $200, but "money is not really an issue." I will be wearing this while fighting in a unit of Spartans in Dagorhir Battle Games (I'm not going for anything resembling historical accuracy), but it will also be for everyday wear.

In this price range, where should we be looking? I have not actively researched the kilt market in quite some time and I do not wish to waste his money or kind gesture.

This would be my choice as well. It's a terrific kilt from a great company.

i figured it would be the number one choice and for once I'd be first.

Now if the OP wanted a more contemporary non-tartan kilt...might be more possibilities.

I am fine with non-tartan and contemporary (I regularly use and abuse my two Utilikilts, even in the snow and wind), but I would prefer a traditional strap and buckle closure system, as snaps are sometimes considered too modern to be allowed on the field.

I have a Buzz Kidder that has the traditional strapps and buckles closure system, and it is made of canvas or cotton duck cloth, as well as being well within that price range.
I'm not exactly suggesting you get a Buzz Kidder, it's just what I have and have to live with for now, but I think there are also other canvas kilts with the straps and buckles.

Good luck, and hope you end up with something good.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

    Re: new ~$200 kilt suggestions?

Well, the answer seems to be fairly unanimous. Thank you all.

Now to choose a color or tartan.... I'm leaning towards saffron (my ancestry is about 90% Irish), but if someone can find something in Clan Barclay dress muted tartan, you would forever be my hero (I have yet to find a tartan that I think would look better with a Polamalu jersey).

Out of curiosity, how do Stillwater Heavyweight kilts compare?
