    Re: new ~$200 kilt suggestions?

Thanks for the input, everyone. I'll let you all know when I make my decision, and I'll post up pictures once I get it (I should probably also post pictures of my UKs for you guys).

And, we'll all be eagerly awaiting the pictures, whatever you decide.
I changed my signature. The old one was too ridiculous.

I'm trying to decide between wool and PV, and I think I've narrowed my selection down a bit. If I go with wool, I'll be getting either the B&S in the St. Patrick tartan, or a Stillwater heavyweight in saffron or Black Stewart; if I go with PV, I'll be getting a semi-traditional from USA Kilts in either saffron or Mac Leod dress.

Feel free to sway my decision one way or the other, or to throw a wrench in the works and suggest something that'll make my decision even harder.

You're going to have to make the decision yourself. But, keep in mind, it's a good problem to have - "Which kilt should I buy?"

Based on what I've read/heard about Stillwater kilts, and based on what I know 1st-hand about USA and B&S kilts, I don't think you can make a wrong decision. Good luck. And, don't forget the pics.

you also might want to look in the economy kilts section at stillwater kilts for the usmc wool kilt and the black watch wool kilt for around $80. i have the black watch-light to medium weight, comfy for the summer. i do not have a swk heavyweight to compare, though. these economy wool kilts are good first kilt options.

Does anyone know how the heavyweight wool and economy wool kilts compare?

Also, this'll be my third (or fourth, depending on how you're counting--one was a gift that didn't fit, so I gave it to someone who could use it) kilt, but my first "traditional" kilt (in my size, at least).

No contest there. Having direct experience with kilts from both companies, the B&S are far higher quality by FAR. In fact, I'd say they are in a different league.

Stillwater is great for low-price, Pakistan-made, machine-sewn kilts. And I must say, that quality-wise, from my own personal experience, there was very little difference between their standard (acrylic) and their heavyweight (wool). The wool from Stillwater does not feel like good quality wool. I own a heavyweight Irish Saffron from them.

How would you say the casual kilt from B&S compares to the semi-traditional from USA Kilts?

The casual from B&S will be made from high-quality wool and the semi-traditional from USA will be made from high-quality PV. My guess is that you will be happy with either one, and never look back.

Now, to make that decision: wool or PV? Seeing as I only have cotton-poly twill kilts, I don't really have any experience to go by. Oh well, more contemplation and internet research should help resolve this.
