And don't forget that historically, the quaterstaff was very widely considered the strongest of hand-held weapons; that's right, stronger than your longsword!

I do remember Musashi beating opponents with a quarterstaff and one with a boat oar.

when presenting your event, I agree with the others that it would be best to put an explanation with your gear. Having a black watch group would be ideal as well. It is important to get the facts right and not dwell on hollywood icons for sources.
