Harold I am sure that you will look splendid. You have yet to put a foot wrong and I am sure that in your mind you know the correct attire and will dress accordingly and with great credit.

Jock - I believe i know what you are thinking and it wouldn't happen to the same extent over here but hey! If they want an excuse for a party who can blame them in these austere times.

In my opinion, I would go with your initial idea of wearing the MacMillan dress tartan, as that is such a striking and recognisable sett! I would argue that virtually any colour of tweed jacket and waistcoat would look rather smart with the tartan. A collared shirt, neck tie, your new MOD sporran with the brown bag, coloured hose and polished, black brogues would also look quite smart. Since you will be indoors ("a local Methodist Church"), then Scottish headwear will not be required.
