    I would humbly suggest that you emulate the mess dress worn by Chaplains in HM Forces as being the "correct" way of wearing clerical dress with formal Highland attire.

    Cool! Similar to mine, only mine's . . . black. Also the collar's low enough to reveal 3/16" of white most of the way around.

    If a rabat or vestock is not your style ... and they are a bit old fashioned, the clerical shirt for formal wear is often the tonsure shirt, especially if you are a Piski or a Roman.

    Father, I have seen many priests wear a dinner jacket with a collar and rabat, sometimes with a clerical waistcoat. I think it looks perfectly acceptable. I have not seen a priest in a tail coat, mercifully. Wear an evening frock coat and breeches in that situation, or do what most Roman Catholic prelates and a number of priests do: wear cassock and ferraiolone.
