Forgive if I missed it, but is there perhaps damage to the under apron? I wonder if there was mot at some point a reversal due to damage on the then top apron?

    Just a thought.

I like the fact that it buckles the other way. Truly unique find.

It might work better if you take the bottom buckle & strap completely off the kilt and just use the top one.

I think that is what will eventually happen.
This kilt only has the two outside straps with no strap on the under apron...only a piece of velcro that was added at some point. I have an old 1948 Gordon Highlander kilt that only had the two outer buckles. I had one of the buckles and straps moved to the the opposite side so I didn't have to worry about the under apron sagging down.

Is there a button hole (strap hole) on the left side of the kilt near where the straps are?
If you see abbreviations, initials or acronyms you do not know the Xmarks FAQ section on abbreviations may help.

No there isn't and I don't see any previous evidence of there being one. Usually, you could see where there was a repair made on the inside of a kilt if a button hole was sewn up or moved, but nothing obvious is jumping out at me. There is juust the two straps on the outside apron.

Returning to your main enquiry, the usual answer given for a kilt that has the apron opening on the left is that the garment is a womans pleated skirt. Having said that though, the markings look to be statements about the kilt size which are usually only found on military kilts and in the military women wear kilts the same as men. Soooooo, I can't be certain about what you have other than to say it is a fine looking piece of work and you look grand in it.

Nope....both aprons are in great shape. Is this pretty uncommon to see the aprons reversed?

So far no one has responded to your main question regarding the apron buckling on the left rather than the right side. That is probably not common. Other thoughts?
