Chas,
I did hear that now all medals worn by HM Forces personnel have to be court mounted. Swing mounted is no longer allowed.

Not unless it has changed very recently. Each of the three services has its own regulations as to the wearing of medals although they are all broadly the same. There are some strange anomalies in the Army. For instance, pipers wearing a pipers plaid, the medals are worn on centre chest.
When a medal is presented the mounting of it is at public expense and is usually done by the station tailors. Swing mounting is by far and away the cheapest. If a serviceman wants to have his medals court mounted, he must either do it himself or pay a company to do it.
Regards
Chas
