    I am definitely interested in this topic. There were several men named McElmurry in the Augusta area around that time period, likely involved in the deer hide trade.

    Darien is an interesting name for a settlement given the history of Darien, Panama. The City of Darien website says the Scots picked the name themselves.

    I think the naming came from remembrance and a second chance at settlements.

    I am very interested in it. I read a book about Culloden (not at hand now) that talked about how many of the Scots were subject to transport for their actions. It is amazing how they shaped this land. Also "How the Scots Invented the Modern World" is a great source of information about the affect they had.
