I think Tim explained it. Sport kilt does it already.

Sorry Tim. The kiltmakers I was thinking of generally 'lift' those swatches from, or refer you to, one of just a few central tartan registeries. They don't often use their own images.
I do see your point of view, however. It would certainly help prospective clients of those kiltmakers who work in only a limited range of tartans, to be able to see the finished product.
It could even be done by the larger makers or any custom tailor to order.... each time a kilt is made in a new tartan, photo and post it. And though I was refering more to the casual kilt makers, where I am only spending $100-$200, you'd think it should be even more important to the kilt makers you mention as those kilt run $400.00 at the low, low end and can go drastically up from there.

Speaking as one of our local (to this board) kiltmakers. I try to get pics of all the kilts I make. When time permits, I also try to take the kilt in to work and get a quick pic on one of the dress forms to hold me over.

However, out of the 200+ tartans I have to offer, I have only made a small fraction of those into kilts for customers. It would be extremely expensive to just crank out kilts for the sake of pictures.

I admit Tim I'm partial to USAKilts.

Rocky and Kelly (and Jimmy too) have never let me down and I just got the 4th and the 5th is on the way. Check out the PIC Gallery for USAKilts (I have put a few in there and the Gunn on stripe is especially good looking). Also check my gallery as well. Just my $.02 worth!.

Could the pictures be posted of every tartan that is actually made into a kilt? YUP!
Does it take a ton of web space to do it? NOPE!
    Should it be done? YUP!
How can SportKilt do it? Their stuff is "pre-fab".
How can UtiliKilt do it? Their stuff is "pre-fab".
How can AmeriKilt do it? Their stuff is "pre-fab".
Why doesn't USAKilts or BearKilts do it? Their stuff is CUSTOM MADE to length, waist, hips, stripe, field, etc, etc. (That's why they fit better).

Many of the CUSTOM kiltmakers rely on their customers to send-in the pictures as testimonials. SO... those who want the pics... send them over and they'll gladly post them (I'm sure). It's REALLY not that difficult of a task.

I like to look at picture as much as the next guy, but Pictues don't usualy do justice to Kilts. You have to see it to person to really appreciate them.

Hmmn. Well, I guess I have just been lucky. Obviously, being over here in England, I have had to order my Utilikilts, Amerikilts and Savannah Kilt on-line - without seeing the kilt or fabric first. That's a gamble one has to take when buying from suppliers worldwide - no matter what the merchandise. But my tartan kilts have been ordered at meetings face-to-face with the kiltmakers. I have been able to see samples of the fabric, to touch and feel them (the fabrics, not the kiltmakers ) and, as a result, I have never been disappointed when the garment has been delivered. The same goes for many of my plain kilts (especially "TFCK") - I saw and liked the fabric samples and had the kilts tailored. Several of the fabrics have never been made up into kilts either before or since.

Jimmy is dead on. The kilts I have gotten that I am pleased with I take a pic and send an e-mail and post. If you want to know about ANYONE, ask here. The odds someone here has delt with them in the past. And if they had you'll get the direct feed back, both good and bad.

    My thoughts exactly Jimmy.

Since all my kilts are made-to-order, I rely on my customers to model them for me.

That is some of the best advertising you can get.
With the exception of the large add here on this site.
