    New Record

Though I normally wear me kilt 2-3 times a week, this last week I set my personal best: 6 out of the last 8 days wearing a kilt and only because I don't have enough of them to break up the look. Need to buy a couple more....

Which brings me to another thought... Kilt makers, please post pictures of all your offered fabrics made into a kilt, not just a swatch, especially the tartans. If you have made a kilt from the fabric, please strap it on a sewing dummy or maniquin and take a pic or two, it would really help those of us looking to buy our next one.

SportKilt and Utilikilt probably do the best job of showing you what the finished kilt looks like. Amerikilt does a pretty good job too.

    Tim,

Glad to hear that you are beginning to become kilted more. It is such a joy to go kilted every day. It is a very natural thing.

Do you have any idea how much money that would cost the poor kiltmakers?!?! They would have to raise prices or reduce their already thin profit margins. The only way to do it might be to create a digital wireframe kilt and map a fabric onto to it. How much did you want to spend to have this done?

Nah. In this day of dig photography t would be easy. I agree that kiltmakers should have pics of the kilts they have made. It is so hard to tell from just an online swatch!

I would love to know how to do that, Hank. What program would you suggest using?

    .
Tim, some kiltmakers' websites would be massive if they did that! Most of the Scottish kiltmakers can lay their hands on anything between two and three thousand different tartans alone!

Would the storage space on the web be cost prohibitive?

First off, I am referring more to the casual kilt manufacturers....

Blu- it would cost almost nothing. Each time they finish a kilt in a new tartan or fabric, strap it to a dummy, take a good dig pic and post it up. 30 mins. max? and a little web space. I am not saying to make a kilt for each and every scrap of fabric you can lay your hands on, but if you make a kilt with a certain fabric and you offer it, then you should be able to show what it looks like, right?

Hamish- They already have all those swatches on their site, what would be so hard to add a pic of a kilt in that tartan, they are kilt makers, correct? Unless you've seen a particular tartan made into a kilt, you may not know what it looks like, some have much larger sett than others. If they've never made a kilt with a certain obscure tartan or fabric, then it's understandable, don't show it.

Miah- These days web storage is very inexpensive.

Ah! That's different, Tim. I was thinking of the long-established, traditional Scottish kiltmakers who tailor only to order and who, mostly, have to purchase the tartan fabric especially for each customer.

Sorry Tim. The kiltmakers I was thinking of generally 'lift' those swatches from, or refer you to, one of just a few central tartan registeries. They don't often use their own images.

I do see your point of view, however. It would certainly help prospective clients of those kiltmakers who work in only a limited range of tartans, to be able to see the finished product.
