I don't think that's the 48th; as Glen points out, the caption says it's the Q.O.R. Also, the 48th wasn't formed until 1891, 23 years after this picture.

Check my answer above, I just double-checked their regimental gallery and they are in there. (I know it wasn't an "authorized" regiment till 1891 though.)

P.S. This gave me a great reason to contact the 48th directly to inquire so I just emailed them the pic for their response. ;) I can't wait to hear back from them! lol

Yes, interesting, as the 48th does have it on their gallery (band), although clearly labelled QOR, although at the time of the photograph, the QOR was the 2nd Battalion Volunteer Militia Rifles. Militia General Order of 26 Apr 1860 establishing the 2nd VMR from independent companies, has two highland flank companies, Toronto and Whitby, 4th and 6th companies.
This is the same type of lineage of Black Watch of Canada, where the highland companies were flank companies of the 5th Battalion Volunteer Militia Rifles.
Interested to here what their reply is...

I wish I could find the first site I was on where it listed them as being part of the 48th so I could go back there to review what they said. I usually try to Evernote things but sometimes it doesn't get saved for some reason. But yes, I hope to hear back from the 48th soon! And I did a little search for the lineage of the regiment because I saw a similar one for the Black Watch I think and figured that might resolve the question but I can't find a lineage page for them (yet ;) either.
