Being a piper, I can't actually remember the first time I went out kilted without my pipes, but since I'm kilted coming and going to an event/performance/parade/games, etc., the in between stops are quite humorous. I had done a wedding and decided to stop for lunch on the way home. I never stopped to think about what I was wearing and was brought up short when the wee lass behind the counter started openly flirting with me. She eyed me up & down and smiled the whole time I was there. I never considered my kilt a 'babe magnet', but I guess I should. I smile whenever I think about that. I really should strap one one more often . . .

Lol the kilt definitely draws the ladies and makes all the guys jealous at the same time. I love wearing the jacket and waistcoat out and about as its such a sharp looking outfit. I sadly dont have enough reasons to wear it, but christmas is coming up so ill take some pictures.

I think that, if it were a criminal offence to be kilted without a reason, almost the entire membership, and probably most of the lurkers who read and never join, would be behind bars. I understand that the proportion among band members may, paradoxically, be not quite as high.

XMTS teaches much about formal kilt wear, but otherwise,

    Grizzled Ian you are right,

when i said i dont have reasons to wear it, i meant the suit with it.

I see on the "1 kilt 10 looks" thread that the day wear that people wear incorporates the suit jacket and other, what i would say, more formal wear. Not knocking anyone as i think its very smart, and wouldnt mind dressing it up a bit more myself. But day wear for myself would be t shirt and jumper, which ive had positive feedback from, simple solid colours. But i cant wait to get suited up as it sits in my wardrobe most of the time. But i applaud the lot that wear it, just to wear it.

You're right, Ian! I still find it rather strange, tho, when I strap on a kilt and don't have my pipes, I feel like I'm not completely dressed. I have worn new project kilts to Burns Dinners, Church (Weddings, Funerals & the grand high holy days) and an occasional Christmas party, but putting one on to go out to rake the leaves, fill the gas tank or shop fogs my brain. Yet, in a kilt with my pipes and play? Anywhere! Anytime! In a heartbeat! Pavlov! Pavlov!, Bow!, Wow!, Wow!

I think the 1 kilt 10 looks used the terms it did simply because Jamie and myself were trying to name each of the 10 looks, we are both rather casual in the first few photos. I do not think we meant to put forth the idea that you could not dress more casually, if we did it was not our intent. Another thought about those photos, had we done it in the middle of summer I am sure the looks would have been different as it was I was a bit chilled taking the photos when I did, but I thought it important to get them taken in the same place and on the same day.

I like what you have done with the 1 kilt 10 looks, i understood from the thread you can dress more casual, and i think you did it really well, i like the football/rugby top with a kilt for down the pub. And i like the idea of the jacket when going about around town, actually i was in town today and i dressed up more (smart jumper and my new best jeans) because of the thread. So thank you for showing us the ways a kilt can be dressed. I was today trying to picture myself out and about with a kilt in city centre and i still dont have the confidence to wear it. Baby steps i think.

I always wear kilt hose with the kilt and don't wear sandals with the kilt, though I have been known to wear a t-shirt. I just find a kilt looks better with kilt hose, I also do not feel comfortable with scrunched down socks though I think it looks fine on others.
I did find this one photo from the Fergus Highland Games some years ago. It was very hot.

Part of the confidence bit comes from saying "Sod it!" and just wearing it.
