I'm just going to roll my eyes here, and leave it at that.

Thanks to all who had some good suggestions about what to see actually IN EDINBURGH...........as opposed to 40-100 miles and an hour and a half of driving, or more, away.

This is probably a big American/British differenceI've noticed - Americans consider places near that in England at any rate (I won't speak for Scotland) are considered a long way off. I've just Googgled Culloden-Edinburgh and it takes 3 to 4 hours one way, going through the Grampians. I wouldn't call that near.

Don't underestimate the amount of time lost going up, down, and around. Time tends to slow down when you're in wild ground with convoluted roadplans.

Exactly, the drive from Edinburgh to Culloden is at least 2 and a half hours so hardly a short excursion. Also it is on one of the most notorious roads, the A9 with regular traffic carnage due to its two way configuration.
