1-0 Canada after the first period in Gold medal hockey, nail biting time! I have often comment on the strong influence of Scotland on Canada's history and character. It is even evident in sport. During these games the two sports Canadians are most passionate about both claim Scottish heritage. Of course curling came to us fully formed from there and hockey started as Shinty played on ice. In fact when I was a boy the kind of informal unrefereed hockey we played on ponds and rivers was always called Shinny. I am sure from the same roots.
