I saw a fellow in a Campbell (Black watch) kilt with purple hose and a lavender tie, looked awesome.

I agree with the others that say wear the red hose I will go further by saying don't wear a red tie but rather wear a green or blue based tie if you have one.

Good advice given. If it were me I would tone down the red hose to a more sedate claret and I honestly think a red tie would be too much. However, a tie with a red stripe would be perfect. Something like an ABF tie with blue, green and red stripes would do nicely.

I agree entirely. The "Forces Store" is a good source with different options to suit your budget... The ABF tie goes well with any Kilt.

What about cream colored hose? I'm limited on my color choices. I have not really got a huge selection of them to choose from...yet. I love wearing a kilt and plan on investing a lot more into the selection I have for accessories in the near future. If I did wear the cream hoses, what color tie would you suggest? My wife is ok with the cream hoses but does not have an opinion on the tie. I'm not usually a dress up in a shirt and tie kind of guy. Give me blue jeans, t shirt and boots. I don't know where to really begin on dressing the kilt up, other than looking through pictures of y'all on here and getting ideas. It's helped tremendously by the way. Just the color options are so different. I like "professional kilt wearers" opinions.

Avoid the cream hose, you'll like like you rented the outfit. If you already own the red ones, wear those. The matching tie and hose is not my preference. If you only own two neckties, I'd go to a thrift store and get a striped tie. They are classic and have been made for decades so I don't think you'll have trouble finding one for under $5.

Your binary option of a matchy, flashy, red tie and a funereal black tie is not great. Of the two, I'd choose the black one but, as others have said, a striped one with red in it would word best.
