Hose and Tie suggestion?
I have a 10 year class reunion coming up. I will be wearing a Stillwater Heavyweight in Blackwatch tartan, with a grey rabbit fur sporran, black belt, black shoes, white button up shirt, and a black satin vest. My question comes in at which color hose, and tie to really set it off? The hose will be accompanied by matching blackwatch flashes. I was thinking red hose and a red satin tie to go with the ensemble. Or possibly black tie, white hose? Suggestions?

I would wear red. Black long tie for funerals and black bow tie for formal events, otherwise don't wear black.

As a quick answer, I think the red hose, red tie is the better of the 2 options. I am assuming this is not a "black tie" event.

Striped tie, Lovat blue or claret hose. Garter ties, not flashes.

I'm liking the red tie red hose, but my wife seems to think the black is better. But it is definitely not a black tie or formal event. It's dress code is described as "festive attire." I do appreciate the input and will definitely be going more colorful.

As others have said, don't wear black tie or black hose, and don't wear white hose, either. If you have red hose and a red necktie, go with that. If the Missus is really pushing black tie, show her this thread. Good luck.

Another vote for red! White hose with that outfit might make you look "top heavy", and red hose in any shade I've seen match wonderfully with Black Watch (I'm sure you will find countless photographic examples on here). As far as the tie is concerned, I'd go with red over black, but (depending on your options) perhaps a striped, emerald green, or royal blue tie would offer a nicer contrast.
EDIT: Oh, and garter ties over flashes always! I'd not wear flashes in preference to using matching ones, though that's just my opinion. Using the same elastic, $10 worth of grosgrain ribbon and about 20 minutes of cutting and ironing, you could whip up three pairs in different colours to see which suits best.
Cheers, and welcome aboard,
Cameron
