I was in the same situation, back when my grandmother made me my first kilt in real Scottish tartan. The tartan is the green & blue MacDonald Of The Isles Hunting, which also has white and red overstripes.
I picked up, for around $20, a pair of ex-army MacKenzie hose. (Unlike the other regiments, who wore diced hose, the pipers of the Seaforth Highlanders wore tartan hose.)
Here they are, c1976

Thing is, when I got those hose the Seaforth Highlanders had been defunct for only 16 years, and one could pick up ex-Seaforth things. MacKenzie hose are probably rare now!
