Ok, Richard, here I am with a set of silver and ivory pipes that were actually played on the battlefield in WWI. It gave me goosebumps to play a couple tunes on them. Very humbling. A Ross bag had just been fitted to try, so forgive the lack of bag cover.

And here are my McCallums, my retirement from the military gift to myself.

I am a pipe band mom, so I don't know if that counts! My son is eleven, he started when he was eight. He plays with Wasatch and District Pipe Band out of Bountiful Utah. He plays McCallum AB4s with Mopane wood mounts. I drive him to lessons and practices, and ended up as assistant to the Quartermaster and on the Board of Directors because of it.
Carrie in Utah.

I am "free range," like Piper above. No band affiliation--have been told I don't play well with others. I started about ten years ago, at the age of 48 after a lifetime of playing brass and woodwinds. Should have started the pipes years (decades?) earlier. I currently play for myself in practice, sometimes for weddings, funerals and church and in a handful of Highland Games each summer. My pipes are 2010 Athertons with the MacDougall bores. I enjoy playing piobaireachds, 6/8 marches and I admire the play of anyone who plays better than I do. Here's me with my pipes (at a picnic):

I've been a GHB piper for over 30 years (including many other instruments). I also play the Uilleann and Border pipes.
No longer play with a pipes and drums band however.

I pipe with the Baltimore City Pipe Band. Still pretty new at it (six years), but I'm having fun.
It is by caffeine alone I set my mind in motion...

You are learning from one of the best. John Cairns is a phenomenal piper.

I had a few CoCers that I curled with, who got me into piping. I started taking lessons through them, and then just before making the leap from chanter to pipes, I moved to NY. Both bands are absolutely fantastic people!
