How very interesting and amazing to see such a rare creature...I'd never heard of the specie nor knew it existed.
Mountain lions in Az are not seen regularly but are not rare either. They mostly hunt/kill cow calves on free range.
Interestingly enough the State Game and Fish collared a few (GPS) and found they range over a 100+ mile area....and that included checking out the trash behind the local McDonalds in Wickenburg.

Will do Alan. I hasten to add that we watched the cat from inside the car, with the lights on "dip" and then when we were close only with the side lights on. We could see the blunt black tipped tail and three very plain black hoops on it. We could also see quite clearly, as it moved round to keep an eye on us, the broad head, general bulky size and we all agreed that there was no white patch on its chest/throat. So with the light that we had, it ticked all the boxes. The only thing that was unusual in my experience, is that it stayed on the post, normally they are gone in a flash. I wonder if there were young close by and staying on watch was the best option for it?
