Mrs Jock and I have just returned home after a very good days shooting. It was pure happenstance that the day fell on St Andrews Day, where we were shooting, they shoot on Mondays throughout the season. Anyway we were in the company of some fifty Scots , made up of Guns(shooters), loaders, game keepers, beaters, drivers, dog handlers, catering staff and two charming Americans who were shooting too.

Neither Mrs Jock, nor I, heard a mention of St Andrew throughout the day until we were climbing into our car to return home after a superb late lunch. When the Americans asked if I was "Jock Scot, the kilt expert".

"Oh no not again! This is getting silly!" Thought I. "Yes", I replied somewhat embarrassed.

"Where are all the kilts and what about Saint Andrew's Day? Do Scotland not celebrate it? We almost wore our kilts out shooting today to mark the day, we are glad we didn't now!" They asked in somewhat of a confused state.

All I could sensibly say, "Maybe elsewhere in Scotland, I don't know, but certainly not round here!"

I suspect that many non Scots are surprised that The Day is just a normal day for many Scots in their homeland, with no special food ---certainly not haggis----no fuss, no nothing.
